New England Public  School

Addition and Remodel - New England, North Dakota

GT Architecture worked with the school to design an addition to overcome many issues such as providing more academic options, relieve overcrowding and provide quality spaces. The project consists of an addition and partial remodel to the existing k-12 school. The addition includes a new gymnasium in order to accommodate so many grade levels throughout the school day as well as the sporting activities. The school was in desperate need of a new Commons/Cafeteria area to accommodate all the sessions of lunch as well as provide an effective area for students to gather before and after school. Many students had limited access to quality learning spaces, so the existing administrative offices were converted into small classrooms, ITV rooms and breakout spaces. The administrative offices were relocated to the buildings new main entrance. The decision was made to move the Fitness Room to a location that offers public access outside of school hours. This provided a much-needed community service while making the space accessible for students after hours.

Southwest Area Career & Technical Academy

Remodel - Dickinson, North Dakota

This project is a major remodel of three existing Haliburton oil field services buildings into a new career academy for schools in Southwestern North Dakota. The Career Academy is a collaborative partnership with Southwest Area Career and Technical Education (SWACTE) and Dickinson Public School for high school students from Dickinson, Trinity Catholic Schools, South Heart, Belfield, Killdeer and New England as well as Dickinson State University. During the space planning the design team worked closely with the owner to utilize existing spaces as much as possible to reduce expenses for demolition and remodeling of spaces. Being that the design utilizes an existing structure as well as most of the major systems the overall construction costs and timeframes were greatly reduced from that of the construction of a new facility.

Building A (originally office space) provides classroom space, labs, collaboration rooms and offices for staff and students. Nursing classrooms include mock headwalls, simulator stations, a trauma bay, and toilet rooms for students to learn and practice various skills in a classroom setting. (10,820 SF)

Building B (original vehicle servicing building) is remodeled for state-of-the-art welding labs and collaborative classrooms for SWACTE and Dickinson State University. The old vehicle service bays are remodeled into an automotive lab, two diesel mechanics labs for SWCTE and Dickinson State University. An existing bridge crane was reused and the spaces below were designed so all three transportation labs could share the crane, collaborative classrooms and support spaces adjacent to the labs. This building also contains the culinary lab and student “muster” commons space for collaborative activities and staging area for transportation to and from area schools.

Building C (original storage building) is remodeled for an agricultural engineering lab with space for ag equipment, shop tools, greenhouse and classroom. The building also has labs and classrooms for building trades, power sports, CDL/heavy equipment with simulators and drafting programs. The site includes a “sand box” for students to practice the use of actual heavy equipment. Schools, South Heart, Belfield, Killdeer and New England.

Dickinson Mausoleum

Mausoleum Expansion - Dickinson, North Dakota

GT Architecture worked with the City of Dickinson to masterplan and develop additional burial space at the current mausoleum site. The original mausoleum was built in the 1990’s and a need for additional burial options has become a concern for the City. A growing demand for niche spaces along with traditional crypt spaces were incorporated into the design. With the additional mausoleum to the site, the City is better prepared to help the public with their burial needs for the next 30 years. The mausoleum is scheduled to be completed late Spring of 2023.

Steffes' East Manufacturing Facility

Addition - Dickinson, North Dakota

This project consists of an addition onto Steffes’ East manufacturing facility at their Dickinson location. This building’s main use is to manufacture treater buildings on skids. In order to meet size requirements and the numerous crane hook heights, the building has 44’ sidewalls. The new building consists of manufacturing space as well as a 3-story office in one corner of the building. The first two floors of the office have desks/collaboration space for engineering and breakrooms and the third-floor acts as a large conference/meeting space. The layout utilizes an open office design with large windows to flood all spaces with natural light. It also includes interior windows on all levels to overlook the manufacturing space.

1173 Mall

Building Renovation - Dickinson, North Dakota

This has been a multi-phased project that consists of several interior remodels and the renovation of the entire exterior facade. The exterior was fully redesigned to bring a more modern aesthetic look with timeless and low-maintenance materials. All lighting was replaced with energy efficient LEDs and redesigned to make the building more prominent in evening hours. The exterior doors and interior spaces have been updated to increase community accessibility by surpassing ADA requirements.

Flasher Public School

New High School, Gym and Vocational Center - Flasher, North Dakota

GT Architecture was engaged by the Flasher School District to assess their existing facilities. We guided the community through a planning and pre-referendum process leading to a bond referendum in the Spring of 2015. With a successful referendum, the district added new High School classrooms, a gymnasium and remodeled portions of the Elementary and Junior High School.

GT Architecture finished a new High School, gymnasium and updated the heating system for the entire school facility. The district had a very tight budget, so a great deal of planning had been done in order to meet the budget of 6.8 million dollars for 30,000 SF of new construction and a new coal boiler.

GT Architecture was fortunate enough to continue working with the Flasher Public School District to complete the overall master plan for future development and expansion. This consisted of demolishing the original high school and building a new vocational center in its place.

Dickinson Rural Fire Department

Building Expansion - Dickinson, North Dakota

The Dickinson Rural Fire Department has a need for additional truck bays. The decision was made to demolish the office portion of the north station and rebuild three additional drive through bays in its place.

The project consists of adding three additional bays. Within the bays includes ADA restrooms, an electrical room and a fire riser room to supply the fire sprinkler system provided throughout the building. The project includes converting the power source to single phase, new LED lighting throughout the building, new overhead radiant heat in the existing bays and in-floor radiant heat in the new addition.

In order to meet their budget and tie into the existing brick structure we decided to use a pre-engineered steel structure with sandstone fiber cement panels on the exterior of the structure.
